The Civil War Presidency

My neighbor says it's all because of the Nigg... in the White House. My father says you can not take people's money away. The Republicans say NO to anything and everything. The Tea Party says they will let the country default. The people watch two cables channels that tell each side what they want to hear. The President is mad as hell but he is defeated once again by a foe that will not bend. We would have a war if people could split down state lines in a clear North and South. But we don't . We just have a Civil War Presidency and a government that can not function.

There is no method to the madness. It is madness now. Democracy has evolved finally into two groups: the haves and the have nots and their constituencies. The haves have it and will not give it up and the have nots have nothing and they want more. At the center of all this is a black President hamstrung by race, hatred, bigotry, ideology and sidelined by people who refuse to recognize his legitimacy. Think Lincoln. The South said they would not recognize Lincolns legitimacy if he was elected. They didn't. They seceded. Think Texas and Virginia and their crazy secessionist governors and the calls to "water the tree of liberty."

The Civil War Presidency is the war we cannot fight. We should split apart. We are as divided as the North and South. Scratch the surface and talk to your neighbor. He is clearly for the North or for the South. Democrat or Republican. Rich or poor. But we do not see eye to eye. Like my neighbor who blames it all squarely on the man in the White House or my father who says the government wants to take money away from working people--there is no middle ground. You are either for us or against us. The debt ceiling is really just the first shot over Fort Sumter.

The question is, who will fire back?
